TEMPORARY FREE-RANGE INFORMATION

You may have seen recent news about avian influenza (bird flu) and the biosecurity measures being taken to help protect New Zealand's poultry industry.

As a precaution, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has advised that free-range poultry be temporarily housed indoors to reduce the risk of exposure to wild birds carrying the virus. These measures are designed to protect bird welfare and help safeguard New Zealand's poultry supply.

Shake Out sources its chicken and eggs from suppliers who comply with all applicable New Zealand regulations. Where temporary indoor housing is required under MPI's biosecurity measures, suppliers also follow the Commerce Commission's guidance regarding free-range claims during these exceptional circumstances.

We want to reassure customers that MPI advises that chicken and eggs remain safe to eat and that avian influenza currently presents a very low risk to human health.
