What are rescued ingredients?

Food waste is an unfortunate reality in the food business. We all need to do our bit and here at Shake Out weโ€™re always looking for new and innovative ways to lessen our impact. Weโ€™ve got some pretty clever minds in our team, minds that see beyond the norm, to what could and should be.

Our Blob of feta burger is a great example of how premium ingredients can be used in their entirety. While one burger or side may only require the outer, inner or half of an ingredient, the other half is equally fresh and delicious and with a little thoughtful planning can be used to complement even more epic burgers and sides. To create Blob of feta, weโ€™ve utilised several premium ingredients in our rescued salsa and whipped beetroot feta, otherwise unnecessarily destined to waste, to complement our core burger ingredients.

Rescued premium cherries are also used in our Darth Cherry cola shake. Cherries, that were otherwise certain to meet their landfill fate, simply due to shifting demand and visual uniformity. Weโ€™re stoked to be able to start on an ingredient rescue journey for the better. Look out for Rescued or โ€˜Rโ€™ across our menu for even more rescued premium ingredient innovations upcoming.

And our packaging? From day one, we've been working hard to ensure our packaging is compostable and regularly look at how we can better assist our stores and customers to dispose of packaging correctly.
